With your help, the Peekskill NAACP will be able to uphold our mission. Our committees have done extraordinary work since our rebirth in 2015. We have more to do and we want to dispel the statistics of the 80/20 rule. We want to turn that number around. Instead of 20% doing the work, it is our goal that 80% of our Peekskill residents are joining forces to make 2019 match the evolution of mankind. 2019 should not feel like 1919 anywhere.

I, along with the new officers, and the committee chairs that have committed to their positions for the next 2 years see the mountaintop that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Preached about in 1968.  We have a passion that I believe is matched by many of you.

It is my desire that your passion for Health, Criminal Justice, Environmental Justice, Civic Engagement, Economic Empowerment, Youth and Women will manifest into your Membership, continued membership, committee involvement or even potentially leading the charge as a Chair on one of these committees.

Hello and Happy New Year!  As 2018 rolls away, the excitement of the new year rolls in.  As the new President of the Peekskill NAACP, I am truly excited about the work we will continue to do in our community.  The nation is going through a time that is eerily reminiscent of yesteryear’s civil rights era. We too often turn on the tv to hear about the next tragedy or the embarrassment of what’s happening in government.  Peekskill has had a great reputation of diversity and community spirit.  But, despite the small geographical makeup of our town (5.598 sq miles), there are still areas where we can improve and level the playing field for people of color.

We are all committed to doing what’s right and just for our community. We want what everyone wants...a comfortable, enjoyable and rich life with our family and friends.  Let’s do this together. It cannot be done alone.

Happy 2019 and happy life.  I look forward to working with you and watching our community flourish into a model community for the world to see.

Peace and blessings,

Valerie Eaton
